Attachment Configuration at Remote Location

Configuring Attached documents in a location other than Maximo server

1. Creating Attached Documents directories:

We take the following scenario as an example:
The Maximo attachment is stored in a machine named "MY_SERVER", there is an account (e.g. "ADMIN") having full permissions on this folder.
• Create a doclinks directory on the machine storing the document files.
For example: C:\doclinks for Windows or /home/doclinks/ for UNIX.
• Share the drive so that the IBM HTTP Server and the WAS services can connect to it.
• Create the following subdirectories under doclinks:
   \attachments , \default , \diagrams , \images
• Verify the directory structure.

2. Configuring the Application Server for Attached Documents:

Maximo 7.5.x is deployed on WebSphere which is on the Windows 2003 Server platform, its machine name is "MAXIMO_SVR".
The following resolution will use a UNC path for all related points to configure the attachment:
• Create a new account "ADMIN" on Application Server "MAXIMO_SVR", which has the same password as the account on Document Server "MY_SERVER".
Note: This account must have full permissions to the local IBM HTTP Server directories and WebSphere directories and their related port.
• Edit httpd.conf for IBM HTTP Server (Default path: “C:\Program Files\HTTPServer\conf\httpd.conf”), revise DocumentRoot and Directory as following:
#DocumentRoot: The directory out of which you will serve your
# documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but
# symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations.
DocumentRoot "//MY_SERVER/MAXATTACH/doclinks"
# This should be changed to whatever you set DocumentRoot to.
<Directory "//MY_SERVER/MAXATTACH/doclinks">
• Edit IBM HTTP Server service in the Windows-Services panel. From its 'Log On' tab, click 'This account' , input the username and password which we created above.
In this example , input 'ADMIN' and its password, then stop and restart this service.
• Edit WebSphere services in the Windows-Services panel using the account of 'ADMIN' (same as in above step), then stop and restart this service.

3. Editing file Paths in Maximo:
• Login to Maximo.
• Go To System Configuration Platform Configuration System Properties
• Check that the following Property Names have the listed values. If not, update them:

Property Name: mxe.doclink.doctypes.defpath
Global Value: \\\\MY_SERVER\\MAXATTACH\\doclinks

PropertyName: mxe.doclink.doctypes.topLevelPaths
Global Value: \\\\MY_SERVER\\MAXATTACH\\doclinks

Property Name: mxe.doclink.path01
Global Value: \\\\MY_SERVER\\MAXATTACH\\doclinks = http://MAXIMO_SVR/

Note: These paths are case sensitive and note the slash number and direction.

• Live Refresh the above properties and restart the application server.
• Go To any application which has attachments Select Action Attachment Library/Folders Manage folders and set or check the default file path for each document folder, you may input \\MY_SERVER\MAXATTACH\doclinks\attachments for type Attachments, and so on.
